These modules are designed for specially selected officers who have displayed leadership and management qualities at Operational Level and have the potential to become Intermediate or Tactical Managers / Supervisors.

Tactical Leadership Module

1 WEEK

Identify and critically analyse a range of challenges within their role and explore ways to overcome these

Learners will examine and explore core skills and abilities of an Tactical Leader. The course will cover key areas of leadership to include Decision Making and Communication Skills appropriate to level. Managing People, Risks and Resources are all explored along with practical skills in Safety and Wellbeing, Research Methods, Human Rights and Ethics.

As an outcome of this course, delegates will be equipped with tools be able to make effective decisions when managing an ongoing critical incident and evaluate decision rationale as Tactical Command. Develop and implement an exit strategy to close a critical incident.

Managing the Manager and Developing High Performing Units

2 WEEKS

Developing work plans, people, culture and communications.

This course will introduce operational leaders to the concepts of managing and developing high performing and motivated teams, and will explore the broader issues impacting on performance presenting models and tools to tackle the issues and develop units and individuals to their full potential.

Delivering Change and Project Management

2 WEEKS

A practical approach – Including managing problems, delivering corporate change and complex projects within the security sector.

The delegates will be introduced to managing projects and delivering change and will explore the theories and models that underpin change management. They will discuss barriers to change and how to overcome them with effective communication and stakeholder management.

Major Event Planning

2 WEEKS

Developing the security design review, security threat / risk assessment, critical incident management tactics, and security integration with stakeholders and partners.

This course introduces tactical leaders to the concepts of security at major events and provides the tools to allow the delegates to safely manage such events whilst equipping them with the necessary knowledge to manage risk surrounding major events and critical incidents.
